Observations at the Laundry Mat
One of these days I’ll get a washer and dryer for the house but there are times I do enjoy going to the laundry mat. Like this morning.
There were three people I’ve seen coming out before. They happen to be going in the same time I was this time around. I notated them probably as foreign but had lived here for a while. I was right. French. Well they were great to observe. It was two guys and a girl. They appeared to be in their mid 30s and I think all three were just friends. They never spoke English the entire time I was there which is fine because I got less distracted with the words and was able to watch and pay attention to their actions more. These three were completely comfortable with each other. You could tell how they each interacted and moved that they had battled through good times and bad times together and KNEW they could rely heavily on each element of their triumvirate. There was a bond and a connection between them that, I’ll fully admit, part of me envied. Outside of their obvious connection each one also smiled easily which made it easy to smile.
Another interesting pair that came in was two old homeless men that came hiking in with their backpacks. This was fascinating to watch. Quickly they unloaded their few article of clothing into a washer and started it. Then They dried their clothing. As soon as they were dried they took turns going into the restroom and changing. They would each then come out with an arm load of clothing, that they dropped into the washer. Again fascinating to watch and these two had obviously done this before.
