It’s been a productive evening.
left over chicken bones and chicken fat from this combined with an assortment of veggies that I had been saving, veggie by-products from tonight’s meal, plus veggies that were starting to go bad = some really good tasting soup stock.  Oh we also added turmeric for color and a little flavor.

This is my bulk spice bag… See the problem?  No labels.  Yeah I’m the dummy that tries to write on the bags with marker and expects them to stay.  Thankful most of them I can identify by color, smell, or taste.  The ones I can’t… well I go “hhhmm will this go good in that dish”

American Gods

Today I finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman.  It took me longer to finish it then normal because I’ve been spending a lot of time writing when normally I would have read.  As I mentioned on a much earlier post this would be my first Neil Gaiman book.  I had put off reading any of his because of all the craze about him.  Even though I loved the movies StarDust, Mirror Mask, and Coraline. So here it goes:

Over all Review: It was a good book and a good perspective on an old topic.

Critique:  Honestly I don’t understand the huge hype.  He is talented but not great by any means.  I found his style to be overly simplified and he lacks in descriptive abilities with his characters. I also did not feel the emotional build that you get from a lot of stories.  It was like feeling emotions through a drug induced high.

Now I will probably read more of his stuff later on but he has been handed down to the “if I find it at the used book store” instead of brand new. Or if I ever take the time to pay the last of my library fines then I’ll check his books out there.

Another weird thing about me

I leave myself messages on sticky notes and folded pieces of paper.  They always have random messages of one to three words or numbers.  Example:  On my wallet is a small blue sticky note that reads 1,000.  I’m sure when I wrote that down it meant something because I stuck it on my wallet.  I also am sure that I was trying to remind myself of something…  Who know.  My apartment is filled with things like this.

Yum yum

On the stove I have simmering a wonderful soup.  It is a Acorn Squash and Leek soup here are the ingredients

no chicken broth (vegan chicken broth, It was on sale)

3 leeks

2 small acorn squashes

4 Cloves of garlic roasted in the oven

3/4 - 1 cup chopped bok choy

turmeric

pecan meal

3/4 can of cocunut milk

the squash were steamed first while the leeks and bok choy cooked soft.  Coconut milk and turmeric was added then the roasted garlic was thrown in that was cooked for a while then the squash added cooked for a little while, blended smooth, the pecan meal was added to thicken it some then it was simmered for a while longer.

amycarr:

Hhhmmm…. Not anymore.  He’s more of a hippy now.

I have a confession to make

I love listening to music in foreign languages because

1) Other countries seem to have more diversity

2) I can’t understand the words so it is like having another instrument and I am uninfluenced by the words.

playing hooky today sssssshhh
